What qualifications and experience do your coaches have?
Our coaching staff are qualified through The International Cheer Union and also CheerCred by BCA Cheer & Dance. The majority of our coaching team also hold British Gymnastics Qualifications. All staff have a DBS, safeguarding and first aid training. Our head coaches have taken multiple teams to the World Championships, NCA Allstar Nationals in Dallas, The US Finals and The Summit, and have experience working with all age groups and levels 1-7. All of our lead coaches have competed at the World Championships themselves as athletes.
How do you ensure ongoing professional development for your coaching team?
Our staff regularly attend coaching conferences, and are required to update qualifications every 3 years. Our head coaches also lead qualification courses for new coaches, and are guest speakers at conferences and CPD courses.
Are your coaches trained in first aid?
Yes. Everyone is a certified first aider.
How do you cater to athletes with varying skill levels?
Athletes are split into teams at tryouts based on age and ability. Our teams are levelled to ensure that everyone is working at the correct skill ability and able to excel on their team. We offer tumble classes, level-up clinics, open gyms, and training camps to allow athletes to level up and perfect their skills.
Can you describe the training methods used in your coaching programmes?
Our season is divided up into skills building – where we work on particular stunt and tumble skills and technique required for the level the team will compete at. We then move into Choreography where teams start to learn their competition routine. When we move into the competition part of our season, our teams train full out routines, and as we receive judges feedback after each competition we update, improve and make changes accordingly. Throughout all parts of the season we continue our conditioning programme to ensure athletes are physically fit and strong to enable them to meet the demands of the sport. Another key element of cheerleading is building a cohesive team environment with all team members focused on the same goal. Building a successful team dynamic is incredibly important and something that we grow as the season progresses.
How do you prioritise safety during practices and performances?
We work hard to maintain a safe, fun and friendly environment. We want all athletes to enjoy their training in a safe manner. Our gym environment offers everything you’d expect from a successful gym – a full size sprung floor, tumble tracks, foam pit, trampolines and various other training aids. Skills are taught in a progressive manner with a focus on the correct technique. We have a strong focus on conditioning to ensure athletes are physically prepared for the skills they are asking their bodies to complete. Our staff are well experienced in spotting techniques, and maintain safe practice throughout building skills.
